Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Thursday stated that his party, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the upcoming Bihar elections together, adding that the main agenda of the alliance will be to thwart the incumbent Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's alliance.

"We will fight together. Nothing has been decided on the number of seats. The biggest motivation for me and the BJP is to beat the Lalu-Nitish alliance," Manjhi told ANI.

"On June 15 we will have a core committee meeting in which we will decide as to how we can help the BJP," he added.

Earlier in the day, Manjhi met BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi.

The Bihar assembly elections are scheduled to be held later this year.
