Bihar Congress chief Ashok Choudhary on Sunday downplayed reports that the detention of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi's son Praveen was a ploy by the grand alliance of JD(U) and RJD in the state, saying all political parties must follow the Model Code of Conduct.
"This is a matter of the Election Commission. They will take necessary action. But the political parties must follow the Model Code of Conduct," said Choudhary.
Commenting on allegations that the grand alliance has deployed people to find faults with former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's family, Choudhary said that many JD (U) leaders were also caught violating the Model Code of Conduct.
"Who has left the people after them? Rs. 4.5 lakh is not a big amount, but if it is against the Model Code of Conduct then they should abide by it," he added.
Manjhi was detained by the police in Bihar's Jehanabad region on Sunday after Rs. 4.65 lakh was recovered from him.
