Two days after the assembly election results came out, Manohar Lal Khattar emerged as the BJP MLAs unanimous choice to become the Chief Minister of Haryana.

Khattar stated that he was chosen as the new chief minister of the state without any opposition and added that he was going to meet Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki to stake a claim to form his government.

"There was no opposition. It was a unanimous decision. MLAs have elected me as the leader of BJP Legislature Party. Now, we are going to meet the Governor to stake a claim to form the government in Haryana," Khattar told media persons here.

The BJP held a legislative party meeting today, which was attended by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and party vice president Dinesh Sharma, who were appointed as central observers by the BJP Parliamentary Board.

Sixty-year-old Khattar won the assembly elections from the Karnal seat and has held other important positions such as the Chairman of BJP's Haryana Election Campaign Committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Contesting the Haryana Assembly polls on its own for the first time, the BJP attained a majority by bagging 47 of the 90 assembly seats in the state.
