Former Union Home Secretary turned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader R.K. Singh on Tuesday condemned the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh in his strongest terms, and said that the state is ready to root out this menace.

"As per television reports, I came to know that the encounter between security forces and the left wing extremists (LWE) has stopped. Additional reinforcements have reached on the spot where the maoist attack apparently took place. Number of casualties has reportedly been pegged near about twenty, out of which 15 security personnel from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 5 from state police forces losing their precious lives." Singh added.

"This is an ongoing fight, against this armed terrorist groups. Our fight against them will continue. We consider this as one of the biggest security challenges that we are facing. My heart goes out to the families of the victims who died in this casualty," Singh said.

"Naxalites are basically against democracy, it is one of their objectives to derail election process." Singh added

Earlier, television reports suggested that the Maoist IED-cum-gunfire attack was launched on a CRPF search and patrol party that left atleast twenty paramilitary personnel dead in the Jheerum area of Chhattisgarh's Jagadalpur District on Tuesday.
