Mark Wahlberg has recently applied to Massachusetts pardon for 1980s assault conviction, it has been reported.
On April 8, 1988, when Marky Mark was 16, long before he became a model, rapper and actor, he assaulted a man while trying to steal two cases of alcohol and then punched another man in the face as he attempted to avoid the police, the CNN reported.
The now 43-year-old actor, who used to be high on drugs and alcohol that time, was arrested, tried as an adult, and served 45 days in prison.
The 'Entourage' executive producer said that he was still legally affected by his convictions, as it can potentially be the bases to deny him a concessionaire's license in California and elsewhere, something important to him because of his interest in Wahlburgers, a restaurant he hopes to expand.
Moreover, Wahlberg added that given his prior record, Massachusetts and California law prohibited him from actually obtaining positions in law enforcement, which prevents him from becoming "more active in law enforcement activities."
Wahlberg's case would be reviewed by the parole board, which would pass its recommendation to Gov. Deval Patrick, who would make the final decision pending approval by the eight-person Governor's Council.
