Hitting back at Geoff Lawson, West Indies batting mainstay Marlon Samuels has filed a defamation lawsuit against the former Australia fast bowler for making "insulting" and "false allegations" on him after the ICC World T20 final in India.
Commenting on Samuels' confrontation with Ben Stokes in the World T20 final, Lawson had alleged that the maverick West Indies batsman was involved with gangs in Jamaica.
The Australian had also remarked that Samuels was "a guy you don't muck around with on or off the field" as "he's tied up with the gangs there and it goes well beyond cricket", Sport24 reported.
Samuels also filed a defamation suit against an Australian journalist who published Lawson's quotes.
Clarifying his position, Samuels said that he intends not only to defend his integrity and image as a cricketer but also the values he had defended throughout his career.
He also revealed that he would donate the compensation to the Marlon Samuels Society for the Blind in Jamaica if he wins the case.
