Separatist leader Masarat Alam has been remanded to seven-day police custody by a court in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district.
Alam was produced before a judge yesterday who sent him to police custody till April 23.
He had been arrested yesterday in connection with provocative and seditious actions during a rally in Srinagar.
As a preventive measure, another separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was put under house arrest.
On Friday, violence had also erupted in Srinagar as police tried to stall protesters, led by Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, marching towards Tral.
As per reports, 14 people were injured in the clashes as the protesters pelted stones and the policeman resorted to a baton charge. Tear gas shells were also fired at the protesters.
