Firefighters struggled to douse fire that broke out in a cold storage building in Allahabad on Sunday.
Fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot and the situation was brought under control.
"We reached the spot as soon as we received information and started to douse the inferno. The fire broke out in a chillies and spice store. We are mixing foam with water to bring everything under control. We have broken the top wall of the store and a wall so that smoke can come out of the store and we can enter easily. The fire has been brought under control," said fire official, Anand Kumar Rai.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
"This is a cold storage in which we keep spices and dry fruits. Fire broke out around 12 am as everything was normal before 11 am. The cause of fire is unknown. There has been a lot of loss because of the fire," said owner of the cold storage, Sandip Jaiswal.
Fire safety regulations are lax, rarely implemented and not periodically reviewed in most industries or housing societies across India, which results in the breaking of major fire, resulting in the loss of life and material.
