Australia's head coach Darren Lehman has heaped praise on Glenn Maxwell and said the mercurial all-rounder is "a chance" to play in the final ODI of the three-match Chappell Hadlee series against New Zealand on Friday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Maxwell, who was sanctioned an undisclosed amount by the team leadership group following his recent comments about Bushrangers teammate and captain Matthew Wade, was looked over for the first two ODIs which Australia won comfortably.

"Home track, he's a chance," Lehmann was quoted as saying by news.com.au. "Once we see the wicket we will have a better idea. Everyone's a chance."

"He's got to be ready to play and if he gets his opportunity away he goes," he added.

The head coach praised Maxwell for his response to being fined by skipper Steve smith last week for comments and said that the all-rounder had "just missed" selection twice.

"He's been fantastic and full credit to him the way he has responded," Lehmann said.
