Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Thursday demanded a CBI investigation over the incident of dead bodies being found in the River Ganges in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.

"The recent revelation of more than 100 dead bodies found in Ganga in Unnao (UP) has infused fear among people and therefore we demand a CBI investigation on the issue," said Mayawati.

She further stated that the Samajwadi Party had failed to maintain the law and order situation in the state.

"Fifty-eight percent of people of Uttar Pradesh rejected the BJP. The party won with clear majority in the Lok Sabha polls, but they should also realize only 42% votes were in their favour, and 58% of the people rejected them in Uttar Pradesh," she said.

"Fuel prices have come down remarkably in the international market. It's unfortunate that the people of the nation and state governments have not benefitted by this. The Samajwadi Party led Uttar Pradesh state government has also failed in maintaining law and order in the state as well as on all other fronts," she added.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo also launched her book 'A Travelogue of My Struggle-ridden Life and BSP Movement' to mark her 55th Birthday.
