Undefeated world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is reportedly interested in buying NBA team Los Angeles Clippers, after its owner Donald Sterling was banned for life from professional basketball.

Sterling was recently taped telling his young Hispanic girlfriend he did not want her to associate with black players or even bring them to Clipper games, outraging coach Doc Rivers and many of their playing staff, who are black.

According to The Guardian, Mayweather, who is boxing's richest fighter with career earnings estimated at more than 400 million dollars, is a seasoned gambler and is rumoured to have made a seven-figure wager on the Clippers in 2012.

Reports claimed that Mayweather and his business adviser Al Haymon are entering discussions to purchase the Clippers from Sterling, adding that the duo are holding off on official negotiations after Mayweather's fight this weekend.

Mayweather, who is set to defend his WBC welterweight title against the WBA champion Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand on Saturday, will have three fights of a six-fight contract left with Showtime after Maidana and the overall deal could double his considerable wealth, the report added.
