American boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr is reportedly been encouraged by a British boxer, whom he is grooming to be a world champion, to be a fan of Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Metro.co.uk, Britain's Ashley Theophane, who is a new recruit to Mayweather Promotions and will be making his Las Vegas debut in the MGM Casino against Mexican star Pablo Cesar Cano, is an avid Tottenham fan.
Stating that he has been trying to get Mayweather to cheer on Spurs this season, Theophane said that Tottenham winning the north London derby would give a boost to his performance, adding that it makes sense if they stick for Tottenham as he believes that both of them will be champions this year.
Theophane, who has won 33 of 39 professional fights with one draw, also said that he has enjoyed sparring with Mayweather, adding that his work is going well and he cannot wait to make a big impression in his Vegas debut.
Meanwhile, the report said that Mayweather is preparing for his blockbuster battle with the unbeaten Mexican Saul Alvarez at Vegas on Saturday, September 14.
The show also features reigning WBC and WBA light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia against Argentine puncher Lucas Matthysse, while IBF light-middleweight Ishe Smith will defend his strap against Carlos Molina, the report added.
