Northern Irish golfer Graeme McDowell has defended his slip about World No.2 Rory McIlroy leaving his management company, saying that although the move is not yet confirmed, it is already being much talked about in the golfing world.

For weeks there have been whispers at big events in America that McIlroy is about to leave Horizon, the Dublin-based management agency that negotiated his 20 million dollars-a-year Nike deal, the Mirror reports.

Adding fuel to one McIlroy's impending split from Horizon, the Ryder Cup star said that although he was frustrated that neither McIlroy nor Horizon had issued a press release to confirm the slip, he is sure that McIlroy may part ways with Horizon.

Stating that he does not believe that Horizon has been made a scapegoat, McDowell said that the split may be amicable, although he added that the caddie is generally the first to go, then the coach and not far behind down that pecking order is the management.
