Europe captain Paul McGinley has described each of his players as a 'colossus' after they retained their Ryder Cup against the United States (U.S.) at Gleneagles on Sunday.
Europe beat U.S. 16.5 to 11.5 and have now won for the eighth time in 10 editions of the Ryder Cup. Welsh rookie Jamie Donaldson secured the trophy for the home team on the 15th green by beating former US PGA champion Keegan Bradley 4 and 3.
McGinley said that proud is the first word, as he embraced the smiling Donaldson. He added that he wants to say it has been a real honour to get these 12 players, and they have all been a colossus, all of them including the caddies, the backroom team and five vice captains, Sport24 reported.
The European skipper said that winning the Ryder Cup has been a huge team effort. He said of Donaldson that this ugly face to see how happy he is and the pride that they give to everybody and the happiness of the people in the stands he is giving it for everybody else, it's not for him.
The Irishman said that playing is something very, very special and he told the guys on Saturday that as much as he has enjoyed captaincy, it's different than playing. He told them to be out there and enjoy it, because the days happen so quick and they go.
