McLaren team boss Jonathan Neale has said that he hoped that ace driver Jenson Button will remain with the team beyond this season following the announcement of a new engine deal with Honda.
Neale also refused to rule out a Woking comeback for Lewis Hamilton as one of the greatest names in world motor sport prepared for a return to F1 in 2015, the Mirror reports.
Praising the 2009 Formula One champion, Neale said that Button can continue to stay on with the Woking-based site beyond 2015, adding that the racing star is doing a really good job at the club, which is in difficult times at the moment.
Stating that he has no regrets about signing up with Honda, Neale further said that Button fits the values and the culture of the club, adding that the racer was also excited by the prospect of Honda as well.
According to the report, with Honda backing, McLaren enjoyed one of the most spectacular periods of domination in the sport's history, winning 15 of 16 Grands Prix in 1988 with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost at the wheel.
Neale revealed that the decision to switch engine suppliers came because Mercedes is increasingly centred on their own works team at Brackley responsible, in the last eight months, for stealing Hamilton and technical director Paddy Lowe.
However, he added that the move would not affect their competitiveness for the remaining two years of their Mercedes contract.
