Electricity has become a lifeline in modern times. It has become a challenge for authorities globally to keep the electricity supply intact in all circumstances.

Heavy rains sometimes trigger problems and affects power supply.

But Japan's MEIDENSHA, a 120 year old manufacturer of electrical equipments ensures regular supply of power and prevent any failure.

Toyohisa Tsuruta of the Meidensha Corporation said, "Utilizing the vacuum technologies, MEIDENSHA has commercialized the first switchgear establishing the single-break vacuum circuit breaker technologies at a 145 KV voltage class. One of the important functions of this switchgear is to protect the customer's main equipment such as transformers by disconnecting it from the system approximatly 0.1 seconds after short circuits or ground faults occur by lightning stroke. When it comes to 145KV class high voltage technologies, it is necessary to shut off the electricity current within the high voltage. Since it is not possible to shut it off in the middle of ordinary air, it requires that the vacuum valve have a high degree of complete vacuum condition and maintaining strong dielectric strength."

When shutting off the electricity, the important factor is that the dielectric function does not allow the electricity to pass through.

Compared to being in the air, vacuum condition has high dielectric strength.

Also, vacuum technologies also reduce impacts on the environment.

Tsuruta further said, "In our company, for more than 50 years ago in the 1960s, we started the development and production of electrical equipment by utilizing vacuum technologies. Ever since, we have been providing substation equipment to Japan, the ASEAN area, India, and the rest of the world. As a heavy electric machinery maker, we strive to make products that are eco-friendly like V-GIS."

The expansion is anticipated into Asian countries with increase in demand of electricity along with economic development.
