Mexico defeated Group A rivals Cameroon with a strike from forward Oribe Peralta, after they reportedly overcame having two goals controversially ruled out in their FIFA World Cup opener.
Giovani Dos Santos had a volley and a header disallowed despite replays reportedly suggesting that both the calls were incorrect.
However, with Cameroon rarely threatening save for a Samuel Eto'o shot hitting the post and Benoit Assou Ekotto's free-kick going wide, Mexico secured victory when Dos Santos' shot was parried before Peralta arrived to slot in the rebound, the BBC reported.
Cameroon reportedly almost scored a goal late on when Benjamin Moukandjo's free header was saved by keeper Guillermo Ochoa at a rain-lashed Estadio das Dunas in northeastern city Natal.
Peralta's seventh goal in nine competitive games prevented the dubious refereeing decisions from overshadowing the victory, while Cameroon's quality and prospects of getting into the second round appear limited with upcoming matches against Croatia and Brazil, the report added.
