Michael J. Fox resorted to drinking to cope with Parkinson's diagnosis

Michael J. Fox has revealed that he turned to alcohol to help him deal with his Parkinson's diagnosis in 1991.

During an interview with Howard Stern, the Canadian-American actor said that there was a time after his diagnosis when he just felt helpless, Us Magazine reported.

Later in the interview, the 52-year-old star, who is set to star in a new show 'The Michael J. Fox Show' that shows audiences what Parkinson's disease sufferers endure on a daily basis, admitted that his first reaction to the diagnosis was to start drinking heavily.

Fox explained that he used to drink at parties, but then he started drinking alone every day and the "self-medicating" went on for several months.

But when he went to therapy, he started realizing that Parkinson's wasn't a death sentence, Fox added.

Fox had recently admitted to a US publication that Parkinson's had made him a better actor.
