Outlining Microsoft's high hopes for Windows 10, Executive Vice President Terry Myerson has said that the company wanted to see the operating software on one billion devices within two to three years of its release.

He added that no other platform working in any ecosystem was available on one billion devices. Microsoft is aiming to hit the target by offering free upgrade for existing Windows customers, new devices, and plans for business users, reported The Verge.

However, one of the most challenging tasks that Microsoft is likely to face in achieving the feat is to get older devices off of older operating systems. Companies that have built their IT infrastructure around older versions of Windows are often not eager to change tools that people need to use every single day.
