Unidentified gunmen on Saturday gunned down a Sarpanch belonging to National Conference (NC) from Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore area after kidnapping him a day before.
According to reports, 7-8 gunmen barged into the house of Sarpanch Ghulam Mohammad Mir, aged 62, and kidnapped him on Friday night.
"They knocked our door at around 8.30 pm yesterday night and said that they are looking for our father. Then they asked my father to go along with them, two of my sisters protested this. They said that they want to talk to him and he will return home. They pushed my sisters and took my father along with them. I don't know where they have taken him, he is still not back," said victim's daughter.
"There were 7-8 men dressed in khaki clothing and their faces were not covered," she added.
Soon after the incident, the police and the 52 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army had launched massive search operation in the area to find the Sarpanch.
