Ministry of Textiles organises 13-day 'Cottage Crafts Mela' in Delhi

The Ministry of Textiles organised 'Cottage Crafts Mela' in the capital on Monday to celebrate the symbols of distinct culture and heritage of India.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Samir Kumar Biswas, IAS, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) at Shilpi Haat, Rajiv Gandhi Handicrafts Bhavan. Pramod Nagpal, Chief General Manager of the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd (CCIC), was also present on the occasion.

A large variety of items such as artefacts, paintings, wood craft, metal ware, pottery and stone craft, marble craft, papier mache, furniture and furnishings, home linen, carpets, sarees and shawls, are being showcased in the exhibition.

The exhibition is being sponsored by the Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles. The exhibition-cum-sale is open to the public up to November 15. The visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The event was organized by the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd (CCIC) to empower artisans and craftpersons. The Handicraft industry comprises diversified products and is showing continuous and steady growth rate every year.

India has a diverse and rich craft tradition. Indian craft traditions are reputed all over the world and admired for their beauty, design, utilities and above all intricacy of craft.
