Refuting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assertion that he is not being allowed to speak in Parliament over the demonetisation move, the Congress Party on Sunday said it is the minority in Lok Sabha which is not being allowed to perform its function of exposing the government.

"It's a very strange argument coming from the Prime Minister, who enjoys an absolute majority in Lok Sabha to say that a tiny minority of 43 MPs in the Congress Party are not making it possible for him to speak in the Lok Sabha," Congress leader Ashwani Kumar told ANI.

Kumar said that the Congress has always seen that whenever the ruling party has wanted to say anything or has any bill passed then it has relied on its majority to have its say in the Lok Sabha.

"In fact, the reverse is true. It is the minority in the Lok Sabha which is not being allowed to perform its function of exposing and opposing the government on the floor of the House which is its bound and duty," he added.

The Congress leader urged Prime Minister Modi to come on the floor of the House and debate on demonetisation.

"I think the Prime Minister should come before the Lok Sabha and say what he has to say in the Lok Sabha. He has already said that he will say so when the opportunity comes. Congress Party has clarified in the newspapers that we have never stopped the Prime Minister from speaking on the subject. In fact, the Congress Party wants the Prime Minister to speak on the subject," he added.

Prime Minister Modi earlier today asserted that his fight against black money and graft would go on and also lambasted the opposition for not allowing him to speak on the demonetisation issue in Parliament.

"They (opposition) come to the Well of the House...throw paper at the Speaker. We want to put forth the government's view point...but they are not allowing us to do so," he said while addressing a Parivartan Rally in Uttar Pradesh' Bahraich.
