Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday deplored the imposition of curfew in Shopian.

"There is shortage of food, there shortage of milk and children are not getting medicines. A stringent curfew has been imposed for the last ten days, which is not only inappropriate but also inhuman," he said.

He urged people to come out of their houses, defying the curfew.

"We have decided today that we would go to Shopian to defy curfew and we will appeal to people to come out of their houses," he added.

Farooq and his supporters were detained by the police to prevent him from visiting the curfew-bound Shopian town.

Curfew remained in force for the sixth consecutive day following clashes after the killing of five persons in Central Reserve Police Force CRPF firing.
