'Miss Saigon' dominated 2015 WhatsOnStage awards by claiming 9 trophies, which included best West End show.
The musical, which is set during the Vietnam War and based on the opera 'Madame Butterfly,' returned to the West End last year, 25 years after it premiered in London, and won 9 out of the 12 nominations, including best actor and actress in a musical, best direction, best choreography and best musical revival, the BBC reported.
The awards are voted for entirely by members of the public, and show's producer, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, said that he always knew that "public knows best" and was particularly thrilled "by the extraordinary achievement of their four leading Asian performers winning the top acting awards. "
David Tennant and Billie Piper won best actor and best actress in a play for 'Richard II' and 'Great Britain' respectively, and American newcomer Eva Noblezada, and Jon Jon Briones, who had starred in the original cast 1989 London cast, nabbed awards for their leading roles.
'Sherlock' star Mark Gatiss won best supporting actor in a play for portraying Menenius in the Donmar Warehouse's production of 'Coriolanus.'
However, Coriolanus emerged as the most successful play of the night, as it claimed two more wins for best play revival and lighting design.
