Former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief G Madhavan on Tuesday expressed condolence over the sad demise of former president APJ Abdul Kalam, saying the 'Missile Man' believed that it is only through science and technology that a nation can make progress.

"Dr. Kalam's death is an irreparable loss to India and the global scientific community. After stepping down from office, he spent all his time in inspiring younger generations to take up challenges of nation-building," Madhavan told ANI here.

"Dr. Kalam believed it is only through science and technology that a country can actually make progress," he added.

The mortal remains of former president A.P.J Abdul Kalam, who passed away at the age of 84 in Shillong yesterday, have been flown from Guwahati to Delhi.

The former president collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management. He was in a critical condition and had been admitted to the city's Bethany Hospital.

Kalam served as the 11th President on India from 2002 to 2007.
