Mizoram: Suresh Prabhu lays foundation stone for railway station building at Sairang

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday laid the foundation stone for Railway Station Building at Sairang, 20 km away from the state capital Aizawl.

Speaking on the occasion, Prabhu said the railway connectivity will boost more development and create employment in the northeast.

He said the design of the railway station in the northeast will be in sync with the local ethos of the people.

Reiterating that the NDA Government is committed to the holistic development of the region, the Railway Minister said that all the states in the north east will be connected by railway lines by 2020.

He also informed that construction of Broad Gauge railways tracts between Bairabi to Sairang is in full swing and assured to complete all the projects ahead of the scheduled date line by December 2019. He added that the government is committed to ushering development in Mizoram.

The Sairang Railway Station will be a terminal station which will have all facilities, including three passenger platforms, foot over bridge with lifts / escalators, food plaza and other passenger amenities.

Coach maintenance shed and full rake goods handling facilities are also planned at Sairang.

When the proposed project is functional, Sairang Railway Station will be the second Railway Station in Mizoram. The first railway station is already functional at Bairabi and the new Broad Gauge Line project between Bairabi and Sairang is 50.38kms.
