Swiss star Stanislas Wawrinka has refused to get ahead of himself and has played down his chances of winning the Australian Open title, despite beating defending champion Novak Djokovic to reach his second consecutive Grand Slam semi-final.

The eighth seed, who has an ode to persistence by Irish poet Samuel Beckett tattooed on his forearm, has endured a long, hard struggle before finally dethroning the three-time defending champion and will face Czech seventh seed Tomas Berdych in the semi-finals.

According to Sport24, however, Wawrinka has modestly played down his chances, saying that he is still far from winning the tournament and adding that he still has two very difficult matches ahead of him.

Wawrinka also said that he is taking one match at a time, adding that he has played well over the last year as he is enjoying his life and tennis.

Wawrinka further said that he enjoys each of his victories as he is aware that he is not going to be in the semi-finals of every Grand Slam that he plays, adding that the top four-Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer, are better players than the rest as they are amazing fighters.
