Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Kargil on Tuesday and will be laying the foundation stone for the Leh-Srinagar transmission line. He will also inaugurate two hydro-power projects in Ladakh as well as address citizens in the region.
BJP vice-president MA Naqvi, who was overseeing the final preparations for Modi's visit, praised the move. "Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee have visited Kargil in the past, but both did so in times of strife. Modi is the first PM to visit Kargil during peacetime," he told ANI, adding, "This proves that from Kargil to Kanyakumari, Modi is working for the development of the country.
Local residents were also excited by the impending visit, demanding only that the promises that the BJP had made should be fulfilled.
Speaking about the visit, Naqvi told ANI that the people of Kargil and Leh are very excited about hearing Modi speak, and added that people were making the journey from up to 60 kilometers away. He also noted that the BJP had won from seats in Kargil and Leh.
