Congress party leader and former union minister Veerappa Moily on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Government at the Centre has betrayed the people of the country by backtracking on the black money isuue.

"By saying that they will get back the black money and Rs15 lakh will be distributed into the account of every citizen, they [the BJP] have cheated and betrayed the people. With that expectation, they [the citizens] must have voted. However, today, the very basis on which they voted is gone," Moily told mediapersons outside the Parliament.

Earlier in the day, the Rajya Sabha failed to conduct legislative business for the sixth day after leaders of the opposition parties demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a statement on the conversion issue. The opposition also alleged that the government had backtracked on its promises on the issues of black money and unemployment.
