Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dr. M. Veerappa Moily has announced a cash prize of Rs. one lakh to each player of the Indian junior girls hockey team, who recently won country's first ever bronze medal in the Junior Women Hockey World Cup 2013.
Dr. Moily, who announced the cash prize, hailed the efforts of the budding team.
"It is a moment to cherish for every Indian Hockey fan. The Indian Junior girls Hockey Team has done us proud by winning the country's first ever bronze medal in the Junior Women Hockey World Cup 2013," said Dr. Moily in a statement.
"As recognition for this remarkable feat and to encourage this budding team continues the winning ways in many more tournaments for our country, I as patron of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), am delighted to announce a cash award of Rs1 lakh for each player of the winning team on behalf of PSPB. The total cash award for a team of 18 players would be to the tune of Rs. 18 lakhs," he added.
Dr. Moily said 'the medal winning performance of the young women has brought back the attention and faith of the whole nation in Indian Hockey and future of our National Sport'.
"I personally convey my wishes to each one of them and wish them a good luck for their future endeavours," he added, while wishing the team greater success in future.
