England captain Eoin Morgan has lavished praise on his side after the hosts clinched a record 210-run win over New Zealand in the first one-day international (ODI) of the five-match series at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
England registered their highest ever ODI total as they set a daunting target of 409 after being put in to bat first, thanks to stellar knocks by Joe Root (104) and Jos Buttler (129).
Subsequently, Adil Rashid and Steven Finn produced contrasting bowling spells as they scalped four wickets each to bundle the visitors out for 198.
Describing the team performance as 'outstanding', Morgan said that it was as close to the perfect performance in an ODI game that one would find, the BBC reported.
Morgan insisted that although they produced an aggressive brand of cricket, the real test would be to find consistency.
Buttler, who hit the second-fastest ODI hundred by an England batsman off 66 balls, was adjudged the Player of the Match.
