A new research has suggested that mothers and their child's health might improve if the mother sings to her preterm infant while providing 'kangaroo care,' or holding them with direct skin-to-skin contact.
Mothers who held their infants and sang to them had improved heart rate variability patterns as compared to who did not as the combined effect of holding and singing also caused mothers to feel less anxiety.
Dr. Shmuel Arnon, lead author said that they recommended combining 'kangaroo care' and maternal singing for stable preterm infants and these safe, low-cost, and easily implemented therapies could be applied during daily neonatal care.
