Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Monday, spoke about his visit to South Africa and the state's possible collaborations with different countries there.

Talking about Mahatma Gandhi's association with South Africa and his famous movement against racism there, Chouhan said "a private company was in possession of the land on which Mahatma Gandhi's Ashram was built. Our high commissioner and the embassy contacted that company after which four acres of land has been given to preserve Mahatma Gandhi's memory."

"We have decided that the MP Government will give a sum of Rs.1 crore and start a trust to develop that land and keep alive Bapu's (Gandhi's) memory, so that the world could continue taking inspiration from him," he added.

Chouhan said "the second important aspect of this trip was to discuss collaborative projects on various subject areas with South Africa nations."

Praising the South African Government for their work on improving wildlife tourism in the continent, Chouhan said that Madhya Pradesh intended to follow in the footsteps of South Africa and develop the state's wildlife tourism sector.

Talking about possible collaborations between South African nations and MP, Chouhan said "the Premier of the Free State has agreed to visit MP and will be bringing a delegation at the Global Investor summit. The Governor of Johannesburg will also bring a delegation here and before that he will send in another delegation to study the kind of work that MP has done to develop different sectors."

He added that the South African countries and Madhya Pradesh will jointly focus on agricultural development strategies as well.
