President Pranab Mukherjee will host a conference of directors of the National Institutes of Technology (NIT) on November 7-8.
The president is a visitor at the NITs.
The conference will be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan and would be attended also by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and University Grants Commission chairman Prof. Ved Prakash, among others.
About 30 Directors of NITs will also participate in the conference. This is for the first time that a Conference of Directors of National Institutes of Technology (NITs) is being convened by the President.
The agenda of the conference includes steps required to improve the quality of technical education and faculty development in NITs to bring it at par with the top technical institutions of the world, steps needed to create inter-linkages of NITs with the industry, steps required to use National Knowledge Network effectively in the NITs and suggestions to improve the Visitor-NIT interface within the existing statutory framework of each NIT.
