Former Taliban chief Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who was released in Pakistan for aiding in Afghan peace process, has been kept in a safe house of Karachi.
Baradar was flown to Karachi on Sunday after the regional powers still debated on his speculated role in convincing the Taliban commanders to come to the negotiation table to end a decade long war, Dawn reports.
An intelligence officer revealed that Baradar will not be sent to Afghanistan and his fate will be decided between Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States.
Baradar was a close aid of Mullah Mohammad Omar, until he was arrested from the southern city of Karachi in 2010 in a joint raid by Pakistani and the U.S. intelligence agencies.
The government claims he still enjoys respect among the Taliban fighters and is believed to be willing to play the role of a peace ambassador between the fighting parties.
