A group of youngsters have been drawing mural paintings on walls along Srinagar's streets in an attempt to promote and revive Kashmir's rich culture and traditions.
A group of five youngsters were chosen for this project by famed Kashmiri artist Masood Hussain, who suggested the theme for the paintings.
Commissioned by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), the project was aimed at beatifying the city and giving the present generation an insight of Kashmir's history.
"We are basically depicting Kashmiri rural life. We want to give the students here an insight into what our culture was like, because now, we hardly know how it was. So, we wish to provide the younger
generation a better idea about our rich traditions," said Bushra Majeed, who is a student and an artist.
The group has so far completed two paintings in eleven days on a street leading to Srinagar Airport.

The location was chosen to give the paintings maximum visibility.
Saqib Bhat, one of the students, said the paintings were a way of giving exposure to young talent in Kashmir.
"I think that one won't abruptly come across a scene of a village on the way from the airport. You will have to go to a village to see one. But what you will see here is the culture and tradition of Kashmir
through the traditional medium of painting. Along with that, you will get to see a glimpse of the talent in Kashmir and the potential of work that can be done here," Bhat said.
The paintings have received a good response from locals who are seeing such art work for the first time.
