Anni Dewani was planning to get pregnant just days before she was shot dead on her honeymoon in South Africa.

Francois van Zyl, the lawyer representing Shrien Dewani, 34, produced medical notes in the Western Cape High Court showing she had visited the doctors on November 4 2010.

The medical notes shown in court revealed how Anni had told doctors she was not using contraception and was told to take tablets to improve her fertility, Daily Star reports.

With the medical note as evidence, Francois countered cousin and prosecution witness Sneha Mashru's claim that the victim and Dewani had a rocky relationship with Anni telling her she wanted to get a divorce.

Mashru however maintained that she was not aware about this and told the court the victim had confided to her that her sex life was "not good" because Shrien was having problems having an erection.

"Bisexual" Shrien Dewani is accused of plotting the murder of his wife Anni on their honeymoon.

Anni was shot dead as the couple travelled in a taxi on the outskirts of Cape Town in November 2010.
