Britain number one Andy Murray has confirmed that he will play in the ongoing Italian Open in his bid to extend his clay-court winning streak.

The two-time Grand Slam champion, who won back-to-back title in Munich and Madrid recently, had been considering skipping Rome in order to rest ahead of the French Open.

Murray, however, said that he would like to play as he felt good in terms of his game and confidence.

Murray added that it would be good for him to play matches at sea level after playing at altitude the last couple of weeks, but insisted that he needs to look a little bit further ahead of Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and try to make the best decision, the BBC reported.

Murray will square off against Jeremy Chardy of France on Wednesday.
