Murray 'delayed' by drug test on way to receiving OBE at Buckingham Palace

Wimbledon champion Andy Murray was reportedly delayed by a drugs test on his way to receiving his Order of the British Empire (OBE) honour at the Buckingham Palace, which was presented by the Duke of Cambridge.

The British number one was awarded the OBE by Prince William, who was hosting his first investiture ceremony, and had arrived at the Queens' official London residence with his girlfriend Kim Sears and his parents in a chauffeur-driven people carrier.

According to the Mirror, the current world number four had tweeted before receiving the OBE that he was worried he was going to be late as he was in the middle of a drugs test, adding that although such things are a part of his job, it is the last thing one needed on such a special day.

The report mentioned that Murray spent almost a minute chatting and joking with Prince William, much longer than the Prince spent with anyone else, with the Scot saying that the prince had always been easy-going and seemed very relaxed on that day.

Murray, who was awarded the OBE in the New Year Honours also after winning the US Open and men's tennis final at the London Olympics in 2012, beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets back in July to become the first British man in 77 years to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the report added.
