Former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed as the spin-bowling coach of the West Indies men's team on a short-term basis.

The 47-year-old has signed only one-month contract with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), but the appointment can be converted into a long-term position.

It should be noted that Mushtaq's contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as the head coach of the National Cricket Academy expired last month and that the extension will take effect only from July.

Insisting that it is a privilege to work with the West Indies cricket team, Mushtaq said that though he has signed a short contract, a month-long deal is enough for him to make a difference.

"It's a privilege to work with the West Indies cricket team. They have produced many greatest cricketers and I have wonderful memories playing against a few in the 90s. They probably are not the same force in the world cricket at this stage but they still have a consistent pipeline of exceptional cricketers coming in the system," ESPNcricinfo quoted Mushtaq, as saying.

Mushtaq had also served as Pakistan bowling coach between 2016 and 2017 besides also working with England as a spin-bowling consultant previously.
