The 109th birth anniversary of Sachin Dev Barman, one of Hindi cinema's most celebrated music composers, was celebrated here in Tripura.

Organised by the ICA department of Tripura government, the programme started by paying floral tribute to the musician and presentation of various musical programmes those rekindled the sweetness of his music, with memories of cinema's most glorious musical era.
The maestro though, was, born in the royal family of Tripura on October 1, 1906 in Comilla in Bangladesh but his music was always close to the soil and heart.

Popularly known as Panchamda, S D Barman started out as a radio singer on the Calcutta Radio Station but in 1944 moved to Bombay (Mumbai), to be a composer cum background singer.

He had a struggle and long fight in the film city but his music became very popular and in 1970, Panchamda won the National Award for the 'Best Male Playback Singer' for the haunting melody from Aradhana.

Several of his composed music and songs of that time are very popular till date. He composed music to more than 100 films including Hindi and Bengali.
