Muslims across India celebrate Eid al-Adha

Muslims across the country celebrated Eid-ul-Adha, the feast of sacrifice, on Friday.

Eid was celebrated in some parts of the country on Thursday too. States like Kerala conventionally mark the festival a day ahead of its nationwide celebration.

In Hyderabad, Bhopal and New Delhi, people began their day by offering prayers at mosques.

Bollywood actor Raza Murad extended his Eid greetings on the occasion.

"I would like to wish all my countrymen on the occasion of Eid, and I pray to god that peace and prosperity reside in our nation," Murad said in Bhopal.

Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, wished for country's prosperity.

"I would like to extend my wishes to all my countrymen on the occasion of Eid and I wish that this Eid-ul-Zuha brings prosperity, strengthens brotherhood and bring opportunities for the nation and help it develop," he said here.

Bakra-Eid or Eid-ul-Adha is one of the most celebrated festivals among Muslims all over the world. The festival is a day to commemorate the Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail on God's command.
