Muslims in California expressed horror at the mass shootings in San Bernardino that killed 14 people after gunman Syed Farook was widely identified as a suspect.
According to Dawn, Farook, a US citizen who worked for the town's health department, is believed to have been killed in a shootout with police hours after he opened fire inside a Christmas party at a local social services centre.
Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Los Angeles chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said that its members condemned the shooting that happened today.
He said that the Muslim community stands shoulder to shoulder with their fellow Americans in "repudiating any twisted mindset that would claim to justify such sickening acts of violence".
Muzammil Siddiqi, the religious director of the Islamic Society of Orange County, also condemned the killings saying they were contrary to the teachings of Islam.
Earlier, following the deadly Paris carnage, people across the globe took to social media to remove Islamophobia from the western world.
A lot of Muslims across various social media platforms used the hashtag, #NotInMyName, as a part of the campaign to eradicate Islamophobia.
