MyFitnessPal releases first paid product to better track fitness

MyFitnessPal, a health and fitness tracking app, has rolled out its first paid-for premium version.

MyFitnessPal has 85 million users worldwide. The app is available online, on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

According to the TechCrunch, the premium users will be able to customize their MyFitnessPal dashboard to better track the types of nutrients and nutrition reports without being bothered by ads.

Mike Lee, Founder, MyFitnessPal said that the company has been thinking about this for a long time. The plan is to help people move beyond just tracking calories and instead allow them to personalize the experience to fit their own needs and dietary concerns.

The users with customized dashboard will able tracking calories and decide how to allocate their macronutrients like fat, protein and carbs throughout their day and choose whether or not to add the calories they burn to their daily goal.

The updated app for paid users will be able to choose from four different profiles that are, first, a macronutrients profile to see carbs, fat, protein and calories, second, a heart-healthy profile to track fat, sodium, cholesterol and calories, third, a carb-conscious profile for tracking carbs, sugars, fiber and calories and fourth, a custom profile that allows you to choose any three nutrients user want.

Users will receive an updated dashboard on selecting an option that lets them see more than their calorie counts. This will also let user see which foods they ate that day or week that was highest in any selected nutrient.

Paid users will also receive priority customer support, access to exclusive content including recipes, meal plans and nutrition tips.

Also, all users will observe an updated interface that has better graphs that let users visualize their calorie and nutrient intake by day, week or by meal.

A new label, 'verified foods,' will appear on hundreds of thousands of foods in the MyFitnessPal database, allowing users to know that the calorie and nutrition counts are accurate.

The paid version of MyFitnessPal will retail at USD 10 per month or USD 50 per year.
