Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal's ninth French Open title has helped him hold onto the ATP's No. 1 ranking.
Nadal defeated world No. 2 Novak Djokovic on Sunday in the French Open final to retain his number one spot, but had the Spaniard lost to the Serb, the two would have swapped places in the rankings, Sport24 reported.
Moreover, No. 3 Stanislas Wawrinka and No. 4 Roger Federer also remained on their world rank, but Wimbledon champion Andy Murray climbed to No. 5 from No. 8 by making it to the French Open semifinals while first-time major semifinalist Ernests Gulbis jumped seven places to a career-best No. 10, the report added.
Meanwhile, Russian Maria Sharapova won her second trophy at Roland Garros to move up three spots to No. 5 on the WTA list on Monday, but No 1 Serena Williams and No 2 Li Na did not move despite early exits from the French Open in Paris, the report further added.
