Bharatiya Janata party leader Arun Jaitley joined crowd in Amritsar on Sunday to commemorate the death anniversary of freedom fighters-Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
The death anniversaries of the trio are marked every year as the Freedom Fighters' Day.
Speaking about the significance of the day, Jaitley said that this day should encourage leaders and politicians to drive the nation towards prosperity.
"Today's day influence us to build nation stronger, to unite the nation, how to fight against powers who are trying to weaken the nation and to build a clean government who would lead the country towards progress and prosperity," said he.
The day was also observed in New Delhi with enthusiasm as hundreds thronged the function at Jantar Mantar against the changing nomenclature of Hindu religious sites, organized by People's movements and workers' unions.
The function was attended by Adivasi and Dalit groups, forest workers, fishworkers, handloom weavers, domestic workers, street vendors and hawkers, women's groups and organisations that have been working in the country for social and political change.

A member of the People's movements and workers' union said government must educate the young generation about the sacrifices these freedom fighters.
"We demand incorporation of these freedom fighters' lives into the academic course books meant for the young generation.
We also demand stringent counter terrorism actions. We have assembled at Jantar Mantar to take oath for more responsibility towards state education and prosperity," he said.
