Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday issued an advisory saying that the National Highways in Manipur should remain open and law and order should be maintained.
The Ministry acted on a call of ban by the United Naga Council (UNC) in Ukhrul district of Manipur, on constructions of all National Projects and any kind of vehicular movement along the National Highways in effect from 6 a.m on Thursday.
The decision was taken in wake of the incident which occurred on August 30 at Ukhrul town when two persons were killed and 26 civilians and security forces were injured in violent police firing to control a rally protesting against the imposition of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 144 in the district.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Manipur Ibobi Singh along with governor Vinod Kumar Duggal rushed to New Delhi to meet the Rajnath Singh, the Minister for Home Affairs to appraise him of the aggravating situation in the state.
