Ukrainian Defence Minister has reportedly claimed that the Nato countries have started "delivering arms" to the forces in order to help its soldiers fight pro-Russia separatists in Eastern Ukraine.

Valery Heletey however, did not provide details of the weapons being delivered or name the countries involved, reported the BBC.

Five Nato members, including the United States, had earlier denied a similar statement.

Ukraine's Prime Minister termed Nato the "only vehicle" to protect the country from Russia, who he said is backing the rebels in Eastern Ukraine.

Moscow has denied providing any military assistance to pro-Russian rebels in Eastern Ukraine who have been engaged in heavy fighting with government forces since April.

The conflict has claimed at least 2,600 lives.

A fragile ceasefire brokered on September 5 failed to hold after recent outbreaks of violence around Donetsk airport.
