Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Tariq Anwar on Monday condemned the actions of Leipzig University professor Annette G. Beck-Sickinger, after the latter denied a male student internship, citing reasons of 'rape problem' in India.

"If such comment has been made, then it is condemnable. The Government of Germany should take cognizance of this and whosoever has said this, investigation should be done against that person. Such incidents only spoil the relations between two nations," Tariq Anwar told ANI.

Earlier, Germany Ambassador to India Michael Steiner rallied to the support of the student, terming the rejection as 'unfair'.

In his letter to Professor Beck-Sickinger, Steiner raised his objections to the denial, pointing out that the problem of rape existed worldwide, including Germany.

The Professor later apologised for her statement.
