In order to draw the attention of the state government to the plight of farmers, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) continued their 'jail bharao aandolan' on Tuesday in eight districts of Maharashtra.
Thousands of farmers, party workers and leaders were arrested during the agitation.
NCP's Maharashtra Pradesh president Sunil Tatkare had earlier announced that his party will start a 'Jail Bharo' aandolan (court arrest) from September 14 to 16 in every district, which is facing problems due to the drought condition.
Meanwhile, NCP's Baramati MP Supriya Sule said that in the last two and half months the situation is very grim in the region due to the scanty rainfall and farmers are committing suicides after being burdened with huge debts.
According to the official statistics, the farmer suicide count in the six-month span from January to June this year stood at 1,300 cases in Maharashtra.
